Is it possible to remake Marilyn 50 years later?

We delighted in Michelle Williams' performance as the double-M in My Week with Marilyn. But if Hollywood remade Monroe's most popular films, who could fill her shoes? SheKnows weighs in on which three movies could use a redux and which of today's actresses could tackle the roles.

Niagra

In one of her few dramatic roles, Marilyn Monroe flew to fame as Rose, a flirtatious temptress who broke hearts in that famous pink peep-hole dress while scheming to murder her husband. This is a fantastic noire thriller with one of the best natural backdrops ever put on film. The thundering sound of rushing water and clouds of mist are a force of nature, just like Marilyn herself. In the remake, we’d cast Scarlett Johansson for her voluptuous figure and ability to play vulnerable and volatile at the same time.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

Diamonds are still a girl’s best friend -- as long as their cruelty-free and eco-friendly, of course! This benevolent burlesque show is full of singing and dancing and is more than ready for a remake. Pulling from Dancing with the Stars, we’d cast triple-threat Julianne Hough as the ditzy Lorelei and Olivia Munn to play Dorothy, originally played by the snappy Jane Russell. One important stylistic factor would be to give Julianne a true platinum dye job to really stand out.

What a movie! What a role! Marilyn plays Sugar Kane Kowalczyk, a banjo-playing beauty who befriends two cross-dressing fugitives, originally played by Hollywood icons Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon. This farce is one of Hollywood’s funniest movies and showed Marilyn at the top of her game. A little raunchy, a lot politically incorrect, we’d cast Mila Kunis for her good looks and comedic charm. As the gender-bending guys on the run from the mob, we’d cast Daniel Radcliffe and Jonah Hill in wigs and dresses for their ability to truly have fun on screen.

What modern Hollywood actress do you think could give the iconic Marilyn Monroe a run for her money?
